Truth and Mercy Series (America to Sacred Heart of Jesus)
The joy and grace of a Jubilee year is so profound and especially when it has all the spiritual acknowledgment. This is especially true for the 250 years of the Declaration of Independence for this great country, America. To acknowledge God, to give praise to Him as an intrinsic part of our nationhood is what St. Paul highlighted in His letter to the Thessalonians “Give thanks to God in all circumstances, for that is the will of God for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). To acknowledge that all our strength, riches, victories, achievements, holiness, resources have come from Him or owes its source in Him is to give thanks and acknowledge our dependence on Him. This is profound humility and celebrating our creatureliness.
The call by our Bishops to consecrate this beautiful land to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, connects us to our source and fountain. This is coming after many years of America’s Marian consecration to the Immaculate Conception in 1846. It is important to note that Bishop John Carol (the first American Bishop) had initially consecrated America to the Immaculate Conception in 1792. So, 180 years after the first consecration to the Immaculate Conception, done by 23 U.S. Bishops, we are called upon by the entire Bishops’ conference to consecrate this country to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Of course, how is it possible to go to the Sacred Heart of Jesus without the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Consecration to Jesus through Mary, in the words of St. Louis Marie de Montfort, “is the safest, easiest, shortest, and most perfect way of approaching Jesus.”
The beauty of this large-scale country-wide consecration is that it cascades down to individual levels of families, parishes, homes, states and counties. The more this is carried out, the more the effect is felt throughout our country and the world at large. This is huge and its effects are long lasting. On the individual level, more people will acknowledge Jesus, the Son of God, as the source of their lives and achievements, they will begin to recognize Him as Master while we are at best servants and friends. More souls will be drawn back to Eucharistic Adoration and recognition of Jesus as truly present in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar. More souls will recognize that God does have a HEART to love and take a moment to contemplate that HEART which is the meeting point of the Most Holy Trinity.
This country-wide consecration helps individuals, families, and parishes to recognize the reckless love of God chasing after us to come back home, no matter where we lost it. He wants to find us. To those who are depressed or lost HOPE, here is the Hope of all human history. For those who are lost in sin, like the prodigal son/daughter, this is the time to seek return home to the Heart of our merciful Father who waits to receive us home and ready to celebrate our safe return. What are you waiting for?
